FAQ

The Freelance Process

Who Are You? How Do I Know You’re Qualified for My Business Project?

My name is Elinor Teele and I run Squam Creative Services. You can read about my services, my professional background, and the opinions of clients & partners on this website. Or you can contact me with any questions you might have!

When you hire me, you’ll receive a cheerful consultant & writer who can help you:

  • Develop your content strategy for B2B or B2C audiences
  • Create innovative social media campaigns and corporate video content
  • Build engaging websites that welcome your customers
  • Write compelling thought leadership articles supported by thorough research
  • Transform AI-generated content into human-centered communications

All in all, I have 15+ years of experience as a freelance copywriter and digital marketer, a Ph.D. in Old English Literature from the University of Cambridge, and a track record in books & films. I’ll put them to use for you.

How Will You Approach a Project with Me?

It starts with a Zoom conversation about your needs. This FREE one-hour briefing is a chance for me to learn about your content challenges and hear about your goals.

I’ve worked on a large number of B2B and B2C projects, so I may be able to provide you with some immediate ideas for improvements. We’ll also discuss how you’re using AI tools—and whether they’re working for you.

After we’ve chatted, you have options:

  • You can say: “No thanks!”
  • You can request a 3-page Content Report for a small, one-off fee.
  • Or you can ask me to draw up a freelance contract for services.

I like to give clients plenty of time & space to decide if I’m the right fit.

What is a Content Report?

It’s an optional 3-page assessment of your needs, challenges, and solutions. I’ll identify the strengths & weaknesses of your current content. I’ll conduct competitor & market research. And I’ll provide you with a list of creative and cost-effective ideas. That way you can decide if you’re able to take on some of the work yourself.

The trick is to think strategically:

  • Throwing a lot of money at a social campaign is a waste of effort if your customers aren’t swimming in that stream.
  • It’s no good producing a slick ad spot if your audiences aren’t watching that channel.
  • Pumping out generic AI blog posts & content runs the risk of eroding trust.

We’re looking to amplify your unique strengths & stories to reach the right people in the right sphere. We may discover that simple fixes could be just as effective as complex ones.

I charge a small fee for this service. Email me to ask for a sample report!

What About Samples?

Samples are posted in my portfolio, but in the interest of partner and client privacy, I do not post some work on my site. Please contact me if you’d like to see more examples of long-form copy.

How Do You Work with AI Tools?

AI tools are invaluable—especially in formulating a content strategy, understanding your audience, and conducting research. But AI writing often trends towards “waffle.” And you will need a fresh & authentic voice to stand out from your competitors.

We’ll talk about AI integration in the initial stages of our project. If you’re not seeing dividends from your own efforts with AI, I’m also happy to serve in an editorial capacity.

What Are Your Rates?

The initial Zoom briefing is always FREE. I’ll provide you with a sunny hour of thoughtful conversation and brainstorming around your content challenges.

After we’ve chatted, you have the option to ask for a Content Report. This is my equivalent of a doctor’s annual physical. I’ll take a good, hard look at your content and provide you with a summary of my findings. I charge a small, one-off fee for 2 hours of work on this report. But it’s purely optional!

Once we reach the contract stage, rates for projects will vary according to the nature and complexity of the medium. It could be a quick edit of existing copy or something much more ambitious. Please email me with any questions you might have.

Do I Have to Sign a Contract?

Yes. But it’s not 16 pages long. It’s a simple terms of agreement document. I don’t ask for a down payment before starting my work, but in return I ask for a written assurance of good faith. In addition, I want you to be happy that what we have discussed in our initial conversation is what you will receive. It’s important that you feel covered too.

What If I Have a Tight Deadline? Can You Accommodate Me?

It depends on the project. For certain writing that doesn’t require a lot of background knowledge or is in a medium I have a lot of experience in, I can accommodate. That being said, I’m here to do a good job. If meeting the deadline comes at the expense of the quality, then I’d be wasting your time and money.

Does My Company Own All the Rights to the Copy You Write?

Absolutely. I may ask you for permission to show samples of the work I have done with you to other clients, but I will always specify where I wish to use it.

What Happens If I Want to Cancel Our Project Halfway Through?

Life happens. If something comes up and you wish to cancel our contract, I will prorate my fees for the time I have already put in and send you an invoice for that amount. I do not charge a penalty fee.

Can We Work Remotely?

Absolutely. Please email me if you’d like to link up for videoconferencing.
