A jambalaya of cultures and graffiti, Newtown is located just south of Wellington’s center. You can see gentrification in progress at the Newtown People’s Market, where students from Victoria University mingle with immigrants from Vanuatu. Foot traffic comes to a halt on sunny Saturday mornings, when the demand for freshly sprinkled lettuce reaches its peek.
Ferns is the work of Neil Dawson, a Kiwi sculptor from Christchurch. It’s a consistent favorite with Wellington locals, as it plays with both the light and the significant breezes of the city.
